Frequently Asked Questions
Daigo ID & Keys
- What is a Daigo ID?A Daigo ID identifies your account and all apps you've purchased. You can log in your client area with your Daigo ID as username and your website password as password. When you unlock an app, you need to copy & paste your Daigo ID in the respective settings field to identify your account but there may be separate product and access keys to unlock the product. Your Daigo ID is not a secret but you should still keep it private. Think about it like an email address: You may give it to people who need it but should avoid exposing it to the whole world.
- What are Product and Access Keys? These keys are "universal identifier" strings (UUIDs) like a Daigo ID but serve different purposes. Your product and access keys are secret and you need to guard them. You can look them up in the website's client area and they are used, in addition with your Daigo ID, to unlock software and subscriptions. The difference between them is this: A "product key" is the key for unlocking an application. This is usually done automatically but might sometimes be needed to be done manually. A product key is always based on a one-time purchase. In contrast, an "access key" is a key for an online feature such as automatic syncing. It is usually based on a recurring subscription.
- What is the Website Password? The website password is the password you need to enter your client area. You need to keep your website password secret under all circumstances, since anyone with this password can download your software, use your licenses, and even transfer your products to another account. Do not under any circumstance use a weak website password! The password should be random and you should store it in a password manager or your operating system's protected keychain.
- What's a Syncing Password?A syncing password is a password that you choose for online syncing. Do not use your website password, your Daigo ID, or any of the access and product keys you have for that purpose! The syncing password is used for encrypting your data online on external servers and during transfer to other machines. It is important to choose a secure, randomly generated syncing password since otherwise a data breach on an external server (e.g. an S3 server) could allow an attacker to decrypt your files. If your password is strong and an attacker breaches our partner's servers, your data will still remain useless gobbledygook for them. The downside of this is that if you forget your syncing passwords our client software cannot read this data either and everything needs to be resynced.
Security
- How to recover a website password?Go to the recovery page, enter your email address or Daigo ID, and press the Recover Password button. If the email address you've entered is in our database, you will receive an email with a password reset link. When you follow this link you get to a page that allows you to enter a new website password.
- Can you recover a syncing password?A syncing password is a password you have chosen to encrypt your data when it is synced between devices and backed up. We have no control over this password and cannot recover it if you forget it or lose it. We cannot access any data encrypted with such a password. We therefore recommend noting this password on a piece of paper or using a password manager to store it.
Purchasing & Billing
- How do I activate my app? When you first purchase one of our apps, you receive codes: a Daigo ID, a Product Key, and possibly also an Access Key. If you have already purchased one of our products, you already have a Daigo ID and can use it to tie your purchase to your account. Your Daigo ID is public and identifies you. A Product Key is the license for an app. You is sometimes needed to activate the app so you can use it, but often the app is pre-licensed and you don't need this key. An Access Key is for a subscription. Now there are different cases: 1. You have purchased our app via an app store. In that case, it is already authorized and you don't need to do anything. 2. You have purchased the app via our website or one of our re-sellers. In that case, the app should also be unlocked automatically when you download and first access it. However, that method might not be available on your platform or might fail. That is not a problem and normal in certain configurations. If your product remains unactivated, go to the Preferences of the app and enter your Daigo ID, Product Key and Access Key in the respective fields. For online syncing, you also need to specify a personal encryption password that only you know and that you should keep secret. Once you've entered the keys and a strong enough password, the product will be activated and syncs automatically if a valid subscription is active.
- How do I cancel a subscription? You can cancel any running subscription by logging into the client area: press the Sign In button on our web page and enter your Daigo ID and the website password that was delivered to you in the purchase confirmation email. Go to the field that describes the subscription and verify it is the right subscription for the right product. Click View Payment Details and this will bring you to a page of our reseller Hotmart where you can manage your subscriptions. Once a subscription is cancelled, it will continue until it runs out of time; it will not renew again automatically.
- I have not received my confirmation email yetIt can take some time until your confirmation email arrives, sometimes even several hours. You should first receive confirmation emails by our reseller Hotmart and possibly also by your payment company (e.g. your bank if you used a credit card). You should then receive an email from Daigosoft with your Daigo account data. If you haven't received this email after a while (a few minutes) please check your spam folder for emails from daigosoft.com and classify them as “ham” if necessary. If you don't receive an email from us within a few hours, please contact support and include any purchase information in the request. However, do not include any credit card numbers and other confidential payment details—we only need the confirmation from Hotmart and your email address to confirm your purchase.
Daigo Notebook
- Do I need to pay for a subscription? No. After you've purchased Daigo Notebook, the program will work indefinitely as a local note-taking app and you will receive free bug fixes and minor version updates until the next major version is published. Your first year subscription is free. After that, you only need a Daigo Notebook subscription to sync notes between multiple devices.
- Can I use my own syncing solution? In theory Yes. Notes are really just plaintext files with the note nanoid as directory name, and files are in a File directory in each note directory. However, in practice correct syncing can be quite complicated. What happens if you change the same note on both devices and then sync? In our implementation, note texts and files are merged and there is a complicated version maintenance in sync files. If you roll your own syncing, you need to take into account such conflicts. That being said, for many normal use cases normal “last edit wins” syncing might suffice.
- Why don't you include feature X?We are aware that there are many fancy note-taking apps out there and continuously work on improving Daigo Notebook. Our apps are deliberately minimalist and the long-term goal is to resist “feature creep.” For that reason, please understand that we give each feature request careful consideration and sometimes decide not to implement a feature. However, we welcome suggestions and always have a list of future features and improvements to work on.
